 Iraq Appeal

Two consecutive years of war, twelve years of sanctions and recent hostilities have severely affected the standards of living for ordinary Iraqi people. Many Iraqi’s are suffering from a lack of health facilities, decreased food supplies, no electricity and little in the way of a future.

Muslim Aid has been working in Iraq since 2003, providing emergency relief, medical care, food, water and education. Iraq has also been included in Muslim Aid’s Rainbow Family Orphan Sponsorship programme, with Muslim Aid providing orphans with food, education and living costs. A number of clinics and hospitals have also been rehabilitated and equipped, with medicines provided to stock the hospital.

In 2006 Muslim Aid increased its aid efforts; sponsoring more orphans and providing food, clothing and hygiene kits to thousands of Internally Displaced people (IDP’s) across Iraq. Muslim Aid has also equipped libraries with books and furniture, and hospitals with medical equipment such as x-ray machines and medicines.

2007 saw Muslim Aid increasing their work with IDP’s, orphans and widows. In addition to food and medicines, sewing machines were also distributed to widows to allow them to generate an income and become self-sufficient.

Our plans going forward involve focusing on the following projects:

  • Economic empowerment and livelihood promotion
  • Skills training
  • Education and schools assistance
  • Medical projects and general healthcare
  • Specialist programmes for widows and orphans (including The Rainbow Family Child Sponsorship scheme)

The Muslim Aid office has managed to provide assistance to over 150,000 people in Iraq so far, covering Baghdad, Najaf, Kirkuk, Fallujah, Kerbala, Ramadi, Anbar and Diyala. However much more still needs to be done.

Please help us to help them.
