Know your Ramadan > Zakah
Zakatul Fitr & Fidya
Zakatul Fitr Every Muslim must pay Zakatul Fitr (£3 per person) for themselves and for every person they are responsible for. Muslim Aid over the years has sent funds in advance, on your behalf, to field offices and partner organisations in Asia, Africa, Americas and Europe so that our less well off brothers and sisters can join in the Eid festivities. This year £170,000 has been sent to cover Zakatul Fitr. You can pay your Zakatul Fitr any day in Ramadan with the knowledge that it is guaranteed to reach your needy brothers and sisters the world over in time for Eid celebrations. Fidya The Quran states:

As for those who have not the capacity to bear the strain of fasting, for such the substitute is the feeding of an indigent person.

The aged and the chronically ill who neither have the strength to fast nor any hope of fasting on other days must compensate by feeding a poor person for every day of fasting not observed. Muslim Aid has made arrangements to cater for this need in countries recently devastated by the Tsunami – Indonesia, Somalia and Sri Lanka, as well as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kashmir and Iraq. The cost of feeding a person is £3 per day.
